YACHT, a new album, New Release!

Above: YACHT - - - what price glory?

YACHT are people who tell it like it is. If your new song endlessly repeats the refrain "lollipops and surface mail are all I think or dream" over and over again, dunt name the song "Reflections from an Afternoon Abroad," name it "Lollipops and Surface Mail." If your band has a new release for the first time in untold years, title it New Release (Paris by Night Records). Some may say, hold the phone what about tomorrow? It will no longer be a "new release" in which case are we to view this album title as a post-ironic commentary on the ephemeral nature of contemporary music in the digital streaming age? Non. The cold hard fact is, tomorrow may never come. If this truly is the end via Armageddon or other apocalyptic means, or if we repeat today ad infinitum (Ground Hog-style) then the new YACHT album New Release retains its new release status (forever).

You see, New Release is the first studio album from YACHT in five years, out on their own Paris by Night Records label and available as a long-playing (LP) phonograph record exclusively(ish) from The K Mail Order Dept. Recorded at their home in Los Angeles, the album is a slice of sly post-pop, playfully occupying a parallel timeline somewhere between 1983 and infinity. Here, watch this funtastic video YACHT made about the album's many posi attributes. OK, now watch this video. And this video, too.

YACHT are new wave radio rejects; perpetual outsiders; canny observers; dreamer-prophets who average seven years ahead of their time. On New Release, they write about what they know: bubbles in the bathtub, shopping at Sprouts, dissociating while watching TV, side-eyeing the bots, suffering fools, and surveilling half-empty malls, looking for something real. It all comes together in a frisky, genre-transcending opus as formally experimental as it is butt-bumpingly fun.

Eventually, in that far flung future that we realize now may never come to pass, YACHT, New Release (Paris by Night Records) will be available on "streaming services." Until that day arrives purchase a copy of the YACHT New Release LP from The K Mail Order Dept. You be glad.
