Above: The Crabs have a new single, "Something Wicked," out today!
The Crabs emanate a new brainwave gliding brightly over guitar pop rubble. They excel at crashing crush themes, prom night anthems and rock’n’roll lullabies. The Crabs’ cantatas are hummable and boisterously sweet (with a bit of a rough side, knocking down all the pins). Founded in Eugene, Oregon in the early ‘90s by Jonn Lunsford and Lisa Jackson, The Crabs have released four albums on K. Over the years The Crabs had assorted pals and accomplices join in, always with Jonn and Lisa as the creative core.
The Crabs moved north to Portland, Oregon in the late '90s, then to Anacortes, Washington at the turn of the century. Anacortes has seen whole new versions of The Crabs as family members, friends and neighbors join in on assorted recordings over the years. Most of these recordings happened at The Unknown, a studio located above the American Croatian Club of Anacortes (where Jonn Lunsford is a board member). Says Jonn, "The music changes as our musical partners grew and became more creative with each single. We were joined by a variety of artists over the years to make the sounds that appear here. Many thanks to Nich Wilbur and Phil Elverum for recording and engineering these songs. The artist you hear joining us are Vince Jackson, drums and vibraphone, Zinnia Jackson keyboards, Dominic Ermi, guitar and trumpet, Sinjin Ledbetter, bass, Bob Vaux, drums and Brian Tottenham, bass. Cover art is by Lisa Jackson."
Now all these Anacortes Unknown recordings are compiled onto The Crabs' fifth album, Years at the Unknown [KLP300], which is available for PRE-ORDER now at Bandcamp. The second digital single from Years at the Unknown, "Something Wicked" is out today, everywhere. "Something Wicked" was written by 15 year old Vince in Anacortes High School band class. We would have loved to hear the marching band perform it. In the meantime, listen to "Something Wicked" HERE.
PRE-ORDER Years at the Unknown [KLP300] and receive two songs, "Something Wicked" and "The World Can't Bring You Down" now, the rest of the album on release day August 15, 2025.
