Earlier this century, Lois Maffeo of Olymp teamed up with Greg Moore of Grass Valley, Calif. duo The Moore Brothers forming Owl & the Pussycat to sing assorted ditties dissecting light hearts and cold shoulders, early man and modern woman, the end of civilization and the beginning of the Jazz Age. Listen to their sole (self-titled) album released in 2003 and get real, real gone for a change.

Since the release of their singular tome Owl & the Pussycat have performed shows when conflicting lives and schedules allow. The good news is, Owl & the Pussycat are playing next month at Northern Sky Festival, an art and music happening occurring at Oyster Bay Farm in rural Thurston County, Washington. Asked why Owl & the Pussycat have been so infrequently to the stage Lois explains, "Greg has his own band The Moore Bros., and he's always worked as an art therapist. For many years he really didn’t have a lot of time to tour." Understood. Will the Northern Sky show feature songs from the album, new songs or wha? "It will be a combination: songs from that record,  songs from that time that weren’t on the record and hopefully new songs. We have limited time to practice before Northern Sky, so we're going to cross our fingers and let it rip."

Lois Maffeo will be performing other Olympia shows in the next little while with band mate Heather Dunn - - - August 25 with Michael Hurley and James Maeda at the Scherler Sundays series, and October 14 with Heavenly, Swansea Sound and Mount Eerie at the Capitol Theater.

Lois is looking forward to spending time with Greg as they launch into their latest adventure. "Oh my gosh am I ever. We have a fun friendship and I listen to his radio show on KVMRx every Monday 6:00 to 8:00 PM (PDT), DJ Game. Tom and Greg (The Moore Brothers) have played the DJ Game all their life, playing records and cassettes for each other, new things they’ve found. That’s what the radio show is called and what it is. That‘s always been the best part of being involved in music, making friends and keeping friends and walking through life with good people."
