"Joelle" is the second digital single from Calico Kills the Cat [KLP004], Mecca Normal's second album, which will be available digitally for the first time this autumn. Of "Joelle" singer Jean Smith says "A young woman's personal experience with a man who thinks it's her job to make breakfast and wash the dishes." Although the song is almost 40 years old, the sentiment is still relevant today. Listen to "Joelle" HERE.

Mecca Normal are the Vancouver, B.C. duo of vocalist Jean Smith and guitarist David Lester who've been rocking the political and cultural left side of the fence since 1985, releasing their music via K since 1986. Two of their earliest albums from 1988 (Calico Kills the Cat) and 1991 (Water Cuts My Hands) have been available on physical formats for decades, now they will be streamable, as well, from all the usual digital plats. Mecca Normal describes Calico Kills the Cat thusly on the history page of their website:

“Record Calico Kills the Cat in 2 days at Yo Yo Studios (a former chicken coop) in Olympia with Calvin Johnson. David’s favorite songs on the album: ‘One Woman’ because musically it revolves around two chords. One rises, one falls. The struggle between the two worked perfectly with the lyric content: one person's efforts for change.”
