Our Kendl Winter has been touring constantly since before the release of her recent Apple Core [KLP224] album in October, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Blackberry Bushes. This woman is compelled to play music, like all the time always, she’s living life and sharing it big. On a brief weekend stop-over here in Olympia she settled into the Dub Narcotic Studio to record a 7” phonograph record as part of our Dub Narcotic Disco Plate series, “At the Same Time”. The line-up for this session features Kendl playing guitar and singing, Joe Capoccia on bass and Austin Cooper playing the drums. Our own Selector Dub Narcotic completed a remix version for the flipside of the record, “The Same Version”. This future K release was previewed via the K Singles Zip-Pak. Besides both sides of the Dub Narcotic Disco Plate 7” phonograph record it included Special Apps, recordings that will be available only here at the K Mail Order Dept., “Crows in the Snow” and “October”. “Crows in the Snow” is derived from one of Kendl’s self-released solo albums, Kite. It features a similar line-up of musicians, Kendl and Joe, along with Geoff Shannon on cello and Kevin Rainsberry playing drums.
About “October” Kendl says, “It’s a banjo melody I’ve been playing with…I recorded it at home and played guitar and the banjo on it.”
Recently Kendl worked with Brooklyn-based videographer Elisa Da Prato to make a video document of her song “Waiting for the Taker”:
