The new Mount Eerie single, from his Dub Narcotic Disco Plate Release “Distorted Cymbals” (DBN122) is the first we’ve heard from Phil Elverum in nearly three years, but it is a song that was certainly worth the wait. Calvin calls this track one of Phil’s most cogent projects in years—its a beautiful song, in both renditions, and a great collaboration of two friends and outstanding artists.
Jeremy Jay is fresh in from London, and has dates across the states. His band has been practicing in the studio all week, and they sound absolutely incredible, and eminently danceable. I’ll be posting a live recording of “Wild Orchids” and an interview with them soon, but until then check out the MP3 vid on youtube here. What a jam! If you live in a city he’s playing, particularly the NW dates when K bands Curious Mystery & Nucular Aminals will be joining, don’t miss out!

SNOWPOCALYPSE 2012, FROM THE K JOURNAL
This past week was full of ice and snow in Olympia, breaking many of our beloved trees and leaving us all without power for days and days. But the K office persevered! We even had some fun. The video above “Snow Day,” footage of Danielle exploring the drifts around the K office, was shot by Sarah Cass and includes a never-before-heard original composition by LAKE‘s Ashley Erikkson, “Conch.”
And here are some beautiful pictures Sarah took of the storm…
THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO…
Meet Ruby Fray, the new solo project from K rock star Emily Beanblossom (the wickedly popular lead singer of Christmas. You remember them, yes?). Her new solo record Pith, which debuts April 17th, 2012, is a string of musical gems ranging from dark psych-rock to playful americana, and is sure to be one of the year’s most celebrated indie releases.
