Rose Melberg Interview!

Rose Melberg

I got to catch up with Rose Melberg yesterday, who’s released records on K with Tiger Trapthe Softies, and by herself [Homemade Ship (KLP211)].  It comes as no surprise that she’s as nice as her music.  We talked about her songwriting and what’s coming up in her musical future.  See it on the K weblog. (Eric)

Seattle Folklife with The Softies!

The first topic of discussion with Rose was her reunion with Jen Sbragia under the Softies moniker.  They reunited to play at one of Chickfactor’s 20th anniversary shows in Brooklyn, and are bringing the show over to the west coast for May for the K Showcase at Folklife Festival in Seattle! (Yes!)  Many other K bands will play as well: on 25th, Angelo Spencer, the Curious Mystery, and Western Hymn and special guest KMVP will be there, and Saturday the 26th, the Hive Dwellers and Kendl Winter will be playing (as will the aforementioned Softies) with visiting band Katie & the Lichen.  The full line-up of the fest is announced tomorrow, May 3rd!  We’ll put it up on the facebook, that convenient avenue that it is.

Portland Stays Weird in Paris

TJO performs at "Keep Portland Weird" in Paris, France

Tara Jane ONeilTender Forever, and Mirah spent last weekend in Paris for the Keep Portland Weird event, celebrating–what else?–Portland’s weirdness, all by playing their songs together, collaborating, and generally being their Northwestern weirdo selves.  TJO has been gaining speed around her gorgeous “Sirena” b/w “Rainbow Connection” 7″ single.

Help Nucular Aminals Record Their New Record With Steve Albini!

Nucular Aminals Raise Funds to Record w/ Steve Albini

The Nucular Aminals are going to trek down to Chicago to record with Steve Albini for their next LP, but they’re asking for some help to do it.  Instead of a Kickstarter campaign, they’ve posted six demos (that will make their way onto the forthcoming album in Albini-recorded versions) on Bandcamp which can be downloaded for $10 or more. (Included in that price is also a guarantee of getting a download of the finished album once it’s released.)  Help the Nuc Ams realize their Albini-recorded dreams!  Listen to their new demos on our Tumblr.
