Annette Funicello, star of some of my all-time favorite movies, has passed away from complications of multiple sclerosis, an ailment she has lived with since 1987. Loved her in all the Beach Party films (Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Bikini Beach, Beach Blanket Bingo, How to Stuff a Wild Bikini), Pajama Party, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones, The monkey’s Uncle and best of all her last film Back to the Beach where she and Frankie Avalon are married and living in suburban Ohio with their teenage daughter and punk rock son, who dresses just like Harvey Lembeck in the Beach Party films. Classic!View all her films, then start over back at the beginning and watch them again. Besides all of these major motion pictures Annette will always be immortalized for her series Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club show. Yikes! Her theme song “How Will I Know My Love” still haunts me.
Annette has a magic voice, it’s perfect! I fell in love with it the first time I heard her rockin’ and rollin’ “Tall Paul”. It is doubtful I would have ever made a record if I hadn’t heard her assrted 45s. She has so many fantab songs, “Don’t Stop Now”, “Teenage Wedding”, “Pineapple Princess”, “Swingin and a Surfin”, “The Parent Trap” and “Surfer’s Holiday”; not to mention the title songs to many of her films like “Pajama Party”, “Bikini Beach”, “Beach Party”; check out the theme song for The Monkey’s Uncle:
“Perfect” is a word that is always associated with Annette, the ultimate ’60s movie star, off stage as kind and considerate as the roles she played. Annette, thanks for the goodness!
