Dub Narcotic Studio Bumpin’

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

There has been much thumping at the Dub Narcotic Studio this past week. Kimya Dawson is hard at work on her new album Thunder Thighs [KLP229] with Oak-town pal Jason Carmer (who recorded Alphabutt [KLP193] and Hidden Vagenda [KLP165]) back behind the controls. Last winter the Hive Dwellers played a few shows with Kimya around the NW (including one particularly memorable event at Pop Culture in Vancouver, Wash.) and some of her new songs were so moving I shed tears and those songs are on this new record! It all sounds so beautiful, an epic. Songs about walking like thunder and being alive and of course, the library. There has been quite a parade of appropriately attired weird-outs passing through, playing, singing, stompin’ and shoutin’. A real hootenanny. The guest list includes the Olympia Free Choir, Aesop Rock and numerous mysterious, friendly strangers who klang an autoharp then ride their bicycles off into the sunset. Pictured here relaxing outside the studio door are Ben Lucal, Kimya Dawson, Mike Warren and Laureyna Grand Pa. Glory be.
