A Beat Happening Garment!

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Karen Soskin, tour manager for Julianna Barwick and so many New York weird-outs (Karen also works at New York’s premier independent record store Other Music!) decided to design her own Beat Happening shirt one rainy day, took a photograph and sent it over here to us at K.

This image, which graces the cover of the first Beat Happening album (Beat Happening, KLP001) was originally poster art for a show at the Tropicana in Olympia, Washington in Nov. 1984, before Beat Happening even had any records available. The show featured the stellar line-up of Young Fresh Fellows, Girl Trouble and Beat Happening. What a bill!

A couple weeks after that show I saw a woman with an orange shirt similar to Karen‘s with a hand-drawn image of the cat in the rocket and “Beat Happening” across the top. I asked her where ever did she find such a thing and she said it was found in the free box. Possibly so.
