Jean Smith's Pussy Riot series at the Olympia Library

On Saturday Mecca Normal gave an art / music / poster / book presentation at the Downtown Olympia Timberland Regional Library. The art was their exhibition The Black Dot Museum of Political Art (hanging at Northern for the month of September),  paintings, drawings, posters and other politically inspired/politically charged works by Jean Smith and David Lester of Mecca Normal. Jean displayed and discussed her Pussy Riot series, paintings that explored the Russian political art collective that have been making headlines world-wide. David Lester presented his latest graphic novel The Listener (Arbeiter Ring Publishing). Jean broke the news that The Listener is a finalist for a ForeWord Reviews “Book of the Year Award” in the Graphic Novels & Comics (adult nonfiction) category.
