Northwest Folklife, Full Color Friday!

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Memorial Day Weekend means one thing around these parts, the annual Northwest Folklife Festival! This year assorted K artists participated in a big way. On Friday evening there was a show on the outdoor stage near Broad Street with Bash Bros., Western Hymn, Agnelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets and the Curious Mystery. Here are Lindsay and Kristjanne of Bash Bros. They finished their set well within their allotted time segment and decided to spend the remaining time lounging on stage:
Western Hymn were next on the mic and tore through a set of extravagantly basic Northwest rock’n'roll with fierce ardor and reverence. Here are Craig Extine and Kris Cunningham locking souls:

Sarah Utter, on the electric bass guitar:Have you heard her work in previous K combo, Plastique? Noise terrific. Said electric bass guitar, in repose:Shana and Nic of the Curious Mystery were on the sidelines taking mental notes:

To follow such a maelstrom is no easy task, Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets allowed the stage to cool off for a brief spell before mounting their jet stream flight of fancy to their own unknown passages. Hauts Sommets Gordon Baker and Ben Kapp as they prepare thunder:

Angelo Spencer himself:

The Curious Mystery live in Seattle, these surroundings were familiar to them. Here is Nic with his double-neck sitar guitar:Marianne on drums, with gum:Shana on the auto harp:

Johnny Goss, electric bass guitar:It’s rock’n'roll.
