The Studio:
Dub Narcotic Studio is the birthplace of many recordings including K releases by Kimya Dawson, The Microphones, Mirah, Calvin Johnson, The Blow… the list goes on. This unique studio hosts a blend of vintage and modern recording equipment and instruments, nice people, and an extensive collection of hand percussion and noisemakers, making it a comfortable and inspiring studio atmosphere.

Equipment
Dub Narcotic is an analog/digital studio based around an Ampex MM1100 16 track 2″ machine, Apogee conversion, and an Electrodyne (predecessor to API) mixing console. Outboard effects include compressors and limiters from Universal Audio, RCA, DBX, and more; Roland and Echoplex tape delays; and a selection of spring verbs including an AKG BX20. Computer based processing includes software by Universal Audio, Audio Ease, PSP, and SSL.

“Dub Narcotic Studio is a blank slate environment. It’s a place one can go to erase one’s preconceptions about what music is, how it is made, how a record is made, how instruments should be played, etc. The results are frighteningly attractive, revelatory, and bewitching.”
